Coventry City were interested in Sunderland's Luke O'Nien this month. After Sunderland’s FA Cup win over Everton, The Sunderland Echo asked O'Nien about his future. He said that he is not leaving and is staying at Sunderland. Coventry City had remained interested though and appeared to be looking at defensive options such as O'Nien.

Luke O’Nien could leave Sunderland before the end of the January window amid interest from Coventry, an outcome Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has admitted is possible. Le Bris also explained to the Northern Echo that he would hold talks with the player.

Luke O’Nien is linked with a move to Coventry City. It is reported that Coventry City, West Brom, and Birmingham City are all interested in a move for the versatile defender. It has since been claimed that Birmingham City are not interested in O’Nien this month, which could potentially create an opportunity for a move by Coventry City.

According to ChronicleLive, Coventry City are interested in Sunderland's 31-year-old English centre-back Luke O'Nien, with fellow Championship clubs Birmingham City and West Brom also showing interest. A move could happen in January as the player's opportunities have been limited, having made just two Premier League appearances since his return from injury. O'Nien, who joined Sunderland in July 2018, has a contract until June 2027 and a current market value of €1.30m, according to Transfermarkt.
