Lucca Brughmans Transfer from Genk to Liverpool
Genk's sporting director, Dimitri de Conde, revealed that Lucca Brughmans had previously toured Real Madrid's facilities and admitted that Liverpool's sudden interest was a surprise. De Conde said his first reaction to Liverpool's offer was to question what would happen next, as he feared the move could disrupt Genk's preparations for their match with Anderlecht and place the youngster under unnecessary pressure. De Conde explained that negotiations were not really necessary because Liverpool's first offer was higher than expected. He stated that he received a call from Brughmans' agency at 11 am on a Sunday, two days before the English transfer window closed, with the offer, and that by the next morning, the player was on a plane to Liverpool.

According to quotes attributed to agent Niels De Jonck, Lucca Brughmans will remain at KRC Genk after Liverpool paid €35 million for the top talent. De Jonck said Liverpool have been scouting him for four years, and intensively over the last year and a half, with contact every two weeks. He added that Liverpool completed the signing now because they risked having to pay more later. The agent also explained that Brughmans can still mature for another year at Genk, and the English giant can amortize its investment over a longer period because the goalkeeper was signed for six years. Liverpool also wanted to act before interested rivals such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid. Brughmans will stay at Genk this season and can develop at his own pace. According to De Jonck, Liverpool believe he may be able to become the first-choice goalkeeper next year, but he could also start the season as the second-choice or play for another club on loan. The agent also mentioned that Liverpool do not have satellite clubs, but the network of such a club is large.

Liverpool have agreed a £30m deal with Genk for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, who is having a medical on Monday. He is set to become the club's fifth signing of the summer after Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, the on-loan Ronald Araujo and Bradley Barcola, who is also expected to be confirmed as a Liverpool player on Monday. The agreement will see Brughmans stay in Belgium until 2027, and he is set to remain in Belgium for the season ahead. It is believed he will then move to Merseyside next summer to compete for a spot in Liverpool's first team. Liverpool identified the 18-year-old as a future star and have secured his signing, despite interest from Real Madrid and several other clubs across Europe. There had initially been some internal skepticism over their chances given the interest of Real Madrid and the influence of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. While the deal will see the goalkeeper remain with his current club for the upcoming campaign, any move for Giorgi Mamardashvili will see Liverpool expedite their plans to bring Brughmans to Anfield for the 2026/27 term. If Mamardashvili moves to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool will look to bring Brughmans to Anfield before Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline to provide competition for Alisson Becker.
