Karim Benzema has contacted Bayer Leverkusen to inquire about the club's project and has shown a definite interest in returning to European football. The move is dependent on his role as ambassador for the Saudi Pro League until 2030.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has dismissed speculation that linked the German club with a move for the 38-year-old French striker, Karim Benzema. The denial comes after widespread reports suggested there had been direct contact between both parties following the forward's release in Saudi Arabia. The club's hierarchy has ruled out making a late move in the transfer market for the player. The veteran forward, who has 97 caps and 37 goals for France, has also been linked with Olympique Lyonnais, Al Shabab, and Al Ittihad. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €5.00m.
