Juan Fernando Quintero Transfer from River Plate to Independiente Medellín

1h ago

Independiente Medellín has announced an agreement with 33-year-old Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero, but his return is subject to a condition: the club must first reach 40,000 season ticket holders, a figure that represents nearly the entire capacity of the approximately 45,000-seat Atanasio Girardot stadium. The agreement was reached after Quintero mutually rescinded his contract with River Plate two weeks ago, following his involvement in the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine club, led by Eduardo Coudet, did not include Quintero in its plans. Independiente Medellín, for whom Quintero is a declared fan, stated that both parties made an effort to reunite due to a shared objective that was not previously completed. In a video released by the club, Quintero expressed his happiness with the deal, calling it a dream for him and his family, and encouraged fans to help meet the ticket sales target. If the goal is achieved, it will mark Quintero's second period at the club, where he previously played between 2016 and 2017. The free agent, who has 53 caps and 6 goals for Colombia, has also been linked with Millonarios, Inter Miami, and Cagliari. His current Transfermarkt market value is €1.80m, following a completed transfer in July 2025 for a fee of €2.1 million.
