Wycombe Wanderers are interested in York City's English striker Josh Stones ahead of the summer transfer window, but face competition from Luton Town, Stockport County, Reading, and Oxford United. A report from Alan Nixon via Patreon states that representatives from Wycombe and Luton were present to watch the 22-year-old score two goals against Scunthorpe United on 24 February. The same report also claims that Stockport, Reading, and Oxford scouted Stones during a subsequent match. It is stated that the forward is expected to be open to signing for one of the interested clubs if York City does not achieve promotion. The forward joined York City in January 2025 and has a contract until June 2028. In the current 2025/26 National League season, Stones has recorded 6 goals and 7 assists in 13 appearances. York City reportedly paid a €421K transfer fee to acquire him from Wigan Athletic.
