Jonathan Clauss: Nice Contract Extension
L'Équipe reports that Jonathan Clauss has extended his contract with OGC Nice for two additional seasons and is now under contract with the club until June 2028. The club announced this decision in an official statement. The decision was finalized in November.
Jonathan Clauss is now under contract with OGC Nice until June 2028. According to Nice-Matin, Clauss, whose initial contract with an automatic option was set to end in June of the next year, has extended for two more seasons. Last summer, Clauss was reported to be leaving and had been heavily criticized in recent weeks, but he informed management that he wished to stay for the second half of the season.
Florian Maurice, the sporting director of OGC Nice, stated on Ligue 1+ that the club has made a contract extension offer to Jonathan Clauss, a 33-year-old French right-back who is in conflict with the club and will be out of contract at the end of the season. Maurice said that they are looking for solutions, acknowledging it is a delicate situation for both Jonathan and the club. He added that they are in discussion with his agents to find solutions, have made a contract extension offer with their current means, and that the idea is for him to return because he is a player they need until at least the end of the season, as he is under contract until then at a minimum. The French international has 14 caps and 2 goals for his country, and has recorded 1 goal and 2 assists in 8 Ligue 1 appearances this season. His market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €5.00m, and clubs including Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus have been linked with a move for the player.
