Jon Karrikaburu has transferred from Real Sociedad to Burgos on a free transfer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Jon Karrikaburu has reached an agreement for a transfer from Real Sociedad to Burgos, following several weeks of negotiations and a summer of uncertainty. Karrikaburu has been released from his contract in San Sebastián to sign with the Burgos club for the next two seasons. The player arrived in Burgos in the afternoon to undergo a medical examination at El Plantío, supervised by Michu, the sporting director of Burgos and the primary advocate for his signing. The report adds that Pellegrino Matarazzo informed Karrikaburu from the first day of preseason that he was not part of his tactical plans and that it was advisable for his career to seek a new destination.

According to AS, Jon Karrikaburu's departure is imminent and expected soon after he did not play in the recent friendly against Racing. His destination could be Burgos, where coach Sergio Francisco knows him well from his time in the Real Sociedad youth categories.

According to Diario de Burgos, Burgos is interested in signing 23-year-old Spanish striker Jon Karrikaburu on a permanent basis and wants to offer him a long-term contract. The club's sporting director, Michu, has unsuccessfully attempted to loan the striker for several seasons but is now pursuing a permanent deal, motivated by Real Sociedad's desire to sell the player and the fact that he has only one year left on his contract. Burgos believes in Karrikaburu's undeveloped potential and is further encouraged by the fact their coach, Sergio Francisco, knows the player well from their time together at Real C. While Burgos wants him to reinforce their attack, other clubs are also interested, with Sporting reportedly trying to sign him and the player's own preference being a return to Racing de Santander. Karrikaburu, who joined Real Sociedad in July 2022, has a current Transfermarkt market value of €1.80m and has been capped twice for Spain's U21 team.
