Ipswich Town want to sign John Egan from Hull City before Monday night's transfer deadline, although the Tigers want to keep the 33-year-old Irish defender. The Tractor Boys are pursuing a permanent deal for the central defender, who is a key target for manager Kieran McKenna. Egan activated a contract extension towards the end of last year, giving him a deal at City until the summer of 2027. Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic, who views Egan as a key part of his promotion-chasing side, wants him to remain at the MKM Stadium. Jakirovic said that he would like the player to stay, describing him as a leader and an important member of the squad. He also stated that he was not surprised Egan has offers and that while he will fight for him to stay, a player's decision to leave must be respected. If Egan moves, the Tigers would then look to bring in more cover. Egan joined Hull in February 2025 and has made 26 appearances and scored one goal in the Championship this season. The defender has 37 caps and 3 goals for Ireland. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €1.20m.
