After it was decided in 2026 that coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda would not utilize him, Santos received two inquiries for the player. The inquiries were from Ceará and a team from the Portuguese top flight, but the player did not want to move to either club. This situation followed a previous year when Santos had the possibility of returning Basso to his former club, Arouca of Portugal, but the player did not want to return. Ultimately, Santos and Basso agreed to a mutual contract termination, and he became a free agent. His transfer to Santos from Arouca in July 2023 was for a reported €2.5 million.
