Southampton have confirmed the signing of 36-year-old English goalkeeper Jamie Jones on a contract until the end of the season to serve as emergency injury cover after Alex McCarthy underwent wrist surgery. Jones, who has amassed more than 350 Football League appearances and was most recently with Warrington, will provide backup to starter Daniel Peretz and George Long, who is now the number two. He will be utilised in warm-ups and as an extra body in training, which prevents the need to pull an academy player away from their own valuable training and matches.
