James Tavernier is in the final months of his contract. Barry Ferguson stated on Go Radio that he would give James Tavernier a new one-year contract, saying Tavernier deserves it as he has served Rangers well and can still contribute significantly. When asked if the defender will be given an extension, Danny Rohl did not disclose many details. Charlie Mulgrew commented on concerns regarding Tavernier's defensive ability and how he would handle not playing every game, stating that if Tavernier is willing to accept a lesser role and a deal tailored to it, he is worth another contract. Ferguson also said Tavernier would have to accept his reduced role and stated he would not cause problems in the dressing room if not playing.

Discussions have already taken place privately at Ibrox about James Tavernier's future. The captain is out of contract next summer but wouldn’t speak about the possibility of him staying in Glasgow.
