English defender Jack Daley, 19, has signed a new contract with Middlesbrough before moving to League Two side Gillingham on a season-long loan. Daley joined Middlesbrough from Newcastle Blue Star the previous year. After being a regular for the under-21s, he joined the first team for pre-season, where he started and performed well in a match against Celtic. Manager Kim Hellberg was said to be impressed by his display. Hellberg reportedly called the performance brilliant and praised Daley's control and bravery. As his prior deal was set to expire at the end of the current season, this form resulted in Daley earning an extended contract with Middlesbrough. The length of his new contract was not disclosed. He will spend the season at Gillingham to gain first-team experience under manager Gareth Ainsworth.
