Index.hr reports that a winter departure from Dinamo Zagreb was a possibility for Gonzalo Villar, as several offers were received, primarily from clubs in the Spanish league. A move to the East was also a possibility for Villar. For now, however, this does not appear to be the plan for either him or the club.

In the 2025/2026 domestic league season, the one-time Spain international has made 11 appearances, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist. He has been linked with a move to Deportivo La Coruña. In December 2025, reports indicated that Dinamo wanted to recover as much of their €3M investment as possible.
