Southampton is one of several Championship clubs that have enquired about a potential loan for Manchester United's 18-year-old English and DR Congo defender, Godwill Kukonki. According to Steven Railston of Manchester Evening News, Championship sides Birmingham City and Norwich City have also contacted Manchester United about the player. Numerous Premier League clubs are also reportedly monitoring his situation. Before a loan can be approved, Kukonki must sign a professional contract with United, and there is an increasing expectation this will be finalized in the coming days or weeks. The England U19 international played in 32 games in the U18 Premier League and 11 in Premier League 2 during the 2025/2026 season.
