Asteras AKTOR has announced the return of Giannis Kotsiras, who has signed a two-year contract with the Tripoli-based team that runs until the summer of 2028. The official announcement states that Kotsiras is returning to the team where he first played at the highest level, and that he played for Asteras AKTOR until 2021 before transferring to Panathinaikos. Giannis Kotsiras stated that for him, Asteras is an emotional life decision and not just a professional choice, adding that he is happy to again wear the shirt of his hometown team.

According to Gazzetta.gr, Giannis Kotsiras has left Panathinaikos after five years, and the official announcement of the end of their cooperation was made several days ago. Kotsiras posted a farewell message on his personal Instagram account, expressing gratitude to everyone at Panathinaikos and especially the fans.

Kotsiras is one of the players departing from Panathinaikos as part of a significant renewal of the squad. Coach Nistrup stated that the decision for players to leave is part of a collective plan for strategic restructuring and is not a punishment.

Giannis Kotsiras and Asteras AKTOR have reached an agreement for Kotsiras to return to the club. The 33-year-old Greek defender will arrive in Tripoli next week to undergo medical and ergometric tests and complete his transfer from Panathinaikos, which he joined in July 2021. Kotsiras has 3 caps for his country, and his Panathinaikos contract was due to expire on 30/06/2026. His current market value is €450k, according to Transfermarkt.
