George Edmundson, a 29-year-old English centre-back, has played for Middlesbrough just once this season in the Carabao Cup and has become less favored for selection. It is thought that the club will permit him to leave during the January transfer window. Middlesbrough may seek to sell the defender, who is considered no longer needed, to create space in the squad and release funds, as his contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign. Due to his limited playing time, a move to another Championship club is considered unlikely, while a move to a League One club or a transfer to the Scottish Premiership have been suggested as possible options. A future return to his former club, Oldham Athletic, could be of interest to Edmundson, although a move to League Two at this point would be a surprise. The defender joined Middlesbrough in January 2025 and, according to Transfermarkt, has a current market value of €600k.
