Grêmio is prepared to consider selling their 17-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder, Gabriel Mec, during the summer transfer window, with head coach Luís Castro actively playing him in the first team to increase his market value. A number of European clubs are expected to pursue him, and Shakhtar, Liverpool, Benfica, and Sporting have been specifically mentioned as interested parties. It was reported that Shakhtar submitted a bid of 16 million euros. Grêmio indicated they would only be willing to sell the player for a minimum of 20 million euros. Mec turns 18 on April 11, which will permit a move to Europe in the summer should an agreement be reached between all sides. His contract with the Brazilian club is set to expire in September 2028. Mec has been capped once by the Brazil U17 team and has made two appearances in the domestic CBF Brasileiro U20 league this season.
