Ethan Butera has joined Sporting Hasselt from Ajax on a free transfer, signing a contract with the Belgian club until mid-2028. The 20-year-old Belgian defender was acquired by Ajax from Anderlecht in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of 1.5 million euros. He never made an official first-team appearance for the Amsterdam club, partly due to injuries. Butera has four caps for the Belgium U17 team. In the 2025/2026 season, he made 28 appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and 14 in the Challenger Pro League, providing a total of two assists. His current market value is €500k, according to Transfermarkt.
