Merola, who is currently playing for Pescara, is being considered for a move back to Empoli, the team from which Pescara purchased him in January 2023. Empoli has a clause that ensures they receive 30% of any future resale of Merola, making his return financially advantageous since Pescara would need to provide a discount matching that percentage. Should Merola choose not to renew his contract with Pescara, he could potentially sign with another club for free for the next season as early as January. It is noted that Roberto Gemmi, Empoli's sporting director, has a history of working with Merola at Cosenza, which might ease the transfer process. Merola has played a crucial role in Pescara's promotion to Serie B, and with only a year left on his contract, there is a strong possibility he might leave this summer.
