According to Bild, Cyrill Akono has signed with Chemie Leipzig until the end of the season to aid them in their effort to avoid relegation. Akono was most recently under contract with Halleschen FC. The 25-year-old German-Cameroonian center forward, who is 1.91 meters tall, made seven appearances for HFC in the first half of the season and did not score. Chemie coach Alexander Schmidt stated that they have acquired a tall, physically strong striker of a good age who has previously demonstrated his abilities in the third division and has a very good character, adding that Akono will be very beneficial to the team. Akono expressed his excitement about playing in the stadium, which he described as special, and said he wants to use his qualities to help the team improve its situation as quickly as possible. He also stated his belief that they will succeed if they all work together. Akono has made one appearance for Germany's U19 team. He joined Hallescher FC in July 2024 and his current market value is €75k, according to Transfermarkt.
