SV Meppen, a newly promoted 3. Liga club, has signed 26-year-old German-Cameroonian striker Cyrill Akono from BSG Chemie Leipzig. His contract expires on June 30, 2026. Sport director Olufemi Smith stated that Cyrill has a lot of experience in the 3. Liga with 118 appearances and is at a great age for a footballer. Smith added that with his power, dynamism, and intensive playing style, he fits their requirements perfectly. Smith also said that Akono is flexible offensively, can play various positions, and that this versatility gives them additional tactical options. Smith stated they are very pleased that they were able to realize the transfer and are convinced that Akono will enrich their team with his qualities. Akono said that he is very happy to have signed with SV Meppen, a club he already knows from having played there often. He stated that he was immediately excited when the opportunity to move there arose. Akono recalled it was always very unpleasant to play there as an opponent, which is why he is incredibly happy to now play for SV Meppen himself. He added that he will give everything for the club so that they achieve their goals. In the 2025/2026 season in the Regionalliga Northeast, Akono made 22 appearances, scored 2 goals, and provided 3 assists.
