Borna Barišić Transfer to Osijek

According to Sportske Novosti, Borna Barišić has been named the new captain of Osijek following his signing with the team. It is expected that his presence and quality will bring leadership and cohesion to the squad.

Borna Barišić has returned to Osijek, according to Sportske Novosti. On Monday, the Slavonian club confirmed the transfer with a short video on social media that was accompanied by a 'bomb' emoji. Barišić joins Osijek as a free agent and without a transfer fee.

Sportske Novosti reports that Borna Barišić will return to Osijek and that only the official announcement has not yet happened. Both parties want an agreement, and the possibility for his return was created after Barišić terminated his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor on September 1. Barišić has been recovering at Opus Arena after a serious cruciate ligament injury and has been in regular training with the team for several weeks. He is expected to soon officially become a member of the squad.

According to Sportske Novosti, Osijek is potentially signing Borna Barišić in the upcoming winter transfer window. The former captain and bronze medallist from Qatar is being considered as the first of five new players Osijek is seeking to sign. The move is anticipated to be a major addition to the team if it is realized.

According to Glas Slavonije, Borna Barišić's return is expected to be the first step in the winter reconstruction. The former club captain has been without a contract since September, after his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor expired. During this time, he has been at Opus Arena, where the club allowed him to recover from a serious cruciate ligament injury. The 33-year-old Barišić's long recovery is now complete, and he has been training with the first team for some time, which indicates that his return is becoming more likely.

Borna Barišić, a 33-year-old Croatian left-back and former national team player, has been regularly training at Osijek's facility, Opus. It has been suggested that the club should try to persuade the former captain to join, as the homegrown player's character is seen as a potential solution for a team in need of a leader. However, it is acknowledged that Barišić might have his own plans. The defender has been without a club since September 2025 and has 35 caps for Croatia. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €600k.
