According to journalist Pete O’Rourke on the Transfer Insider podcast, the 19-year-old’s contract at Ibrox expires this summer, and Villa might utilize the contract situation by arranging a pre-contract agreement. O’Rourke mentioned that a bad knee injury has kept Rice out since September 2025. Rice could leave after his contract expires, and cross-border rules permit Villa to sign him for a very small fee, as Rangers are unable to prevent him from speaking with teams outside of Scotland.
