Álvaro Montoro Transfer from Botafogo to Palmeiras

Palmeiras expressed interest in Álvaro Montoro, an 18-year-old Argentinian-Italian attacking midfielder from Botafogo. However, Botafogo rejected any possibility of a negotiation, similar to how they handled an approach for Danilo. Montoro joined Botafogo in 2025 from Vélez Sarsfield in Argentina for US$ 9 million and is under contract until 2029. The club's firm stance is influenced by a financial crisis, a transfer ban preventing them from registering new players, and a court order that stops owner John Textor from selling club assets, including players. Before this court order, Textor was in discussions to sell Montoro to Nottingham Forest of England. A club source stated that nobody else will be sold because the current squad is considered short. Montoro has five caps for the Argentina U20 team and has registered two assists in two appearances in the current domestic league season. Transfermarkt estimates his market value to be €10.00m.
