Agustín Almendra Transfer from Racing Club to Vélez Sarsfield
TYC reports on Vélez's last-minute attempt to acquire Agustín Almendra from Racing. Vélez sent a formal offer to Racing for Agustín Almendra on the last day of the transfer window. Vélez is willing to pay $2,300,000 plus performance bonuses, but Racing is asking for $3,000,000 and the settlement of a judicial debt related to Ricardo Centurión.
Agustín Almendra reached out to Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the coach of Vélez Sarsfield, to express his interest in transferring to the club. Almendra, who has been sidelined from Racing's starting lineup, is in search of more playing time. Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who was responsible for Almendra's debut at Boca Juniors, is reportedly keen on bringing him to Vélez. Nonetheless, Racing's management, headed by Diego Milito, is against the idea of reinforcing direct competitors like Vélez, especially since they might encounter Racing in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals. As the transfer window nears its closure, activity is intensifying, with Racing having recently acquired Franco Pardo. Almendra, who was excluded from Racing's latest match against Belgrano, is eager for more time on the pitch. Even though Vélez and Racing are positioned in different zones in the Torneo Clausura, they could still face off in the Copa Libertadores if both teams advance beyond the round of 16. Racing is contemplating other possibilities for Almendra's transfer, potentially to an overseas club, as they are reluctant to strengthen a domestic competitor.
