Thiago Silva signs for Porto

The Brazilian defender has completed a transfer to the Portuguese club.

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has signed for Porto. The 41-year-old former Fluminense player agreed to a contract with the Portuguese club that runs until the middle of next year, which is the end of the current season. This follows a two-year period he spent in Brazil. The agreement includes an option for a one-year extension until mid-2027. Silva's contract with Fluminense was until mid-2026, but he decided to terminate it this month, announcing his decision after the team's elimination in the Copa do Brasil semifinals.

He wanted to return to Europe to be closer to his family, who stayed in London, and an existing agreement with the club permitted a possible exit in the last six months for this reason. Fluminense tried to persuade him to stay, citing the Libertadores group stage and the 2026 World Cup as reasons, but their attempt was not successful. The player, who has 113 caps for Brazil, is joining on a free transfer. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €600k.
