According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland have joined West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham in pursuing Ipswich Town's 29-year-old English goalkeeper, Alex Palmer. It has been claimed that Palmer, who moved to Ipswich from West Brom for £2m in January 2025, might be made available for a fee of approximately £3.5m. This has alerted Sunderland, as they are seeking to make changes in the goalkeeping department under Regis Le Bris and are also preparing for UEFA Europa League football in the 2026/27 season.
Any potential transfer of Palmer to the Stadium of Light is reportedly affected by Wrexham's pursuit of Anthony Patterson. It has been revealed that Patterson, a Sunderland academy graduate, is travelling to North Wales to complete a deal valued at £8m. Palmer's contract with Ipswich is set to expire in 2028, and his market value on Transfermarkt is currently €1.00m. Reports from July 2026 suggested that the club would likely accept a fee similar to the £2 million for which he was previously sold.
