Southampton manager Tonda Eckert has identified Motherwell's 26-year-old winger Elijah Just as a primary target to strengthen his squad after the club failed to secure promotion due to the spygate scandal. Just is considered to be a potentially perfect signing for the Saints. However, Southampton faces competition, as it is believed that clubs in the English Championship are also monitoring the player, who has 45 caps and 11 goals for New Zealand. Interest in the winger increased following his two-goal performance for his country against Iran at the World Cup.

The Scottish clubs Celtic and Rangers have also held a long-term interest in Just, which was prompted by his performance in the Scottish Premiership, where he recorded seven goals and seven assists last season. Celtic has a strong interest in Just and is now preparing to increase its efforts to sign him following his international performance. Just joined Motherwell in July 2025 and his contract runs until May 2027; his Transfermarkt market value is currently €2.50m.
