As part of player exchange negotiations with Botafogo that have been ongoing for weeks, São Paulo requested 31-year-old Argentinian attacker Joaquín Correa. The talks were initially a single package deal before being split into three separate negotiations. These talks also included São Paulo's interest in right-back Vitinho and midfielder Savarino, with defender Ferraresi, midfielder Pablo Maia, and midfielder Rodriguinho as potential moves to Botafogo.
Due to a lack of progress, São Paulo has become more pessimistic about the possibility of the exchanges being completed. The negotiation for Ferraresi has stalled, which has prompted São Paulo to explore other market alternatives. People involved in the talks had initially considered the Ferraresi deal the most likely to be concluded. Correa has 19 caps and 4 goals for Argentina, joined Botafogo in June 2025, and is under contract until the end of 2027. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €3.00m.
