Stade Rennes has ended its interest in Moroccan international Eliesse Ben Seghir due to a muscle injury he sustained in his right thigh last Saturday during the warm-up for a friendly match between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SF Baumberg. The Breton club had been monitoring the 21-year-old attacking midfielder and was considering an attempt to sign him during the current summer transfer window. Medical examinations on Sunday morning confirmed a muscle lesion, and Bayer Leverkusen subsequently announced that the player would be unavailable for an indefinite period. This injury has reinforced the doubts of Rennes’ executives, who believe that the sporting risk is now too great. Rennes is seeking a player who is immediately available and does not want to invest in a player whose physical condition is uncertain. Consequently, Rennes has withdrawn its interest and will search for other attacking profiles.

Ben Seghir has 20 caps and 3 goals for Morocco. He joined Bayer Leverkusen in August 2025 and has a contract until June 2030. In the 2025/2026 Bundesliga season, he made 10 appearances and did not score. Transfermarkt estimates his market value to be €20.00m.
