Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera, aged 36, might not complete his contract with Boca Juniors, which is valid until December. This has led to increased speculation about a potential return for the player, who was formed at Real Zaragoza. This possibility was discussed during the presentation of the club's new coach, Ibai Gómez. The club was recently relegated to Primera Federación.
Sporting director Lalo Arantegui stated that Herrera has his own timeline and affirmed he would do everything possible to bring him back, even if there was only a 1% chance, as he views him as an important individual for the club's future. Gómez, who is a friend of Herrera's from their time at Athletic, also expressed his hope for the midfielder to join. Gómez noted the positive impact Herrera could have on younger players but confirmed that he has not spoken with him.
A potential return for Herrera two seasons ago did not happen because the club's ownership at the time was not interested. Herrera joined Boca Juniors in January 2025 and has made 9 appearances in the Torneo Apertura this season. According to Transfermarkt, the two-cap Spain international has a current market value of €400k.
