Rangers have given Scottish midfielder Connor Barron, 24, permission to complete a loan move to Middlesbrough, but it is uncertain if the English Championship club can finalize the transfer before the 11pm deadline. This potential move is happening even though Barron has previously indicated a desire to stay at Rangers and compete for his place, having already turned down a transfer to Bundesliga 2 side Hannover 96.

The midfielder, who has appeared in two games this season, also received interest from Sevilla, but the Spanish club could not proceed as they were unable to register another non-EU player. Barron's opportunities at Rangers have been limited after having a lower standing for team selection. He joined Rangers in July 2024, with his contract running until 2028. Barron has one cap for Scotland and his current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €2.50m.
