Panathinaikos have targeted Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate, who has also attracted interest from the Middle East and other European leagues. The Greek club wants the Japanese international, who has 11 caps for his country, and the 28-year-old is one of their main summer targets. Panathinaikos are aware that Hatate wants to leave Celtic for a new challenge overseas, having been less influential under manager Martin O’Neill.
The midfielder has two years remaining on his contract, and a significant seven-figure bid would be required for Celtic to agree to a sale. Reports in July 2026 suggested an asking price of £5-6 million (€6-7 million). Hatate joined Celtic in January 2022 for €1.5 million. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €10.00m. While Panathinaikos have the funds to offer Hatate a significant wage increase, he will remain part of Martin O’Neill’s squad until the club's valuation is met.
