Nottingham Forest are trying to sign Celtic attacker Arne Engels before the winter transfer window closes on Monday. While Celtic manager Martin O’Neill wants to keep the 22-year-old Belgian, the club may allow him to leave if the right conditions are met. Engels has two years left on his contract, and Celtic might delay a sale until the summer. However, Nottingham Forest want to strengthen their attack for their campaign to remain in their league and have also been linked with Everton's Dwight McNeil, although a transfer for him is regarded as improbable.
The opportunity to play in the Premier League and improve his prospects for the World Cup could be appealing for Engels. A large offer could convince Celtic, who have been linked with SC Freiburg forward Junior Adamu, but the club would need a replacement for one of their main attackers mid-season. Engels, who has four caps for Belgium, has 4 goals and 2 assists in 22 Scottish Premiership appearances this season. He moved to Celtic in August 2024 from FC Augsburg for a fee reported to be €11.0 million and his market value on Transfermarkt is currently €10.00m. RB Leipzig have also been associated with the player, and reports from January 2026 indicated that Celtic's asking price was in the range of €15 million to €20 million.
