Neil Farrugia joins Dundee United from Barnsley

The former Ireland Under-21 international has completed a transfer to the Scottish Premiership side.


Neil Farrugia, a former Ireland Under-21 international who also holds French citizenship, has completed a transfer from Barnsley to Dundee United, signing a contract with the Scottish Premiership side until the summer of 2028. The move is Dundee United's first signing of the January transfer window. Farrugia has one cap and one goal for Ireland's U21 side. He spent a year with League One team Barnsley, where he made 30 appearances and scored once, having joined them from Shamrock Rovers in the previous January following their Europa Conference League campaign. Farrugia is 26 years old.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin stated that Farrugia fits the team's tactical framework and will add quality to key areas. Goodwin also highlighted the player's versatility, noting he is comfortable on both sides of the pitch, and praised his defensive discipline and experience from playing nearly 200 senior games. The manager intends to include Farrugia in the squad for the upcoming Scottish Cup match against Ayr United. According to Transfermarkt, the player has a current market value of €125k.
