Milan technically has the option to re-sign 19-year-old Italian midfielder Mattia Liberali from Catanzaro for a total of €3 million by activating a clause, but a return is considered unlikely due to the circumstances of his departure last summer. Como, Sassuolo, Bologna, and Cagliari are also interested in him. Walter De Vecchi, a former head of the Rossoneri's youth sector, told Radio Rossonera that letting the player leave so easily was a significant error of judgment.

Liberali, who is under contract until June 2029, recorded 3 goals and 4 assists in 24 Serie B appearances during the 2025/2026 season. Reports from June 2026 mention a €10 million asking price set by Catanzaro's president, while a release clause of €6 million has also been cited. Additionally, AC Milan is said to hold a 50% sell-on clause on any future transfer. His current Transfermarkt valuation is €7 million.
