Kofi Balmer will undergo a medical at Bristol Rovers on Sunday ahead of a loan move. The 25-year-old will sign for Bristol Rovers on a loan deal until the end of the season. Scott Burns of The Daily Record reported that Rovers had agreed terms with Motherwell to sign Balmer. Burns said that Kofi Balmer was nearing a loan deal to Bristol Rovers, adding that the English League Two side had agreed terms with Motherwell. He also said that Jens Berthel Askou had sanctioned the deal and that the central defender was expected to travel south over the weekend to finalize his move.
Several clubs in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England were interested in Balmer, but his preference was always to move to a club in England. Ross County and Derry City had also been interested, but Balmer’s preference was to return to England. Balmer is moving to Rovers to help them maintain their status in England’s League Two. The Northern Irish defender joined Motherwell in July 2024 and has a contract with the club until June 2026. In the 2025/2026 season, he has made 5 appearances in the Scottish Premiership. He has not yet been capped for Northern Ireland. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €200k.
