Crystal Palace's 31-year-old Colombian midfielder, Jefferson Lerma, has been linked with Vasco da Gama, but reports from Brazil and Colombia indicate a move is complex. The Rio de Janeiro club is interested, but significant financial and sporting obstacles make a transfer uncertain.
Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola reported on his YouTube channel that a deal appears unrealistic, citing Lerma's substantial salary and his contract with Crystal Palace, which runs until June 2027 and would require a considerable transfer fee. Lerma's role at his club has also changed, as he has been deployed as a third centre-back instead of his usual midfield position.
Journalist Gabriel Meluk of El Tiempo stated that this has caused concern for the Colombian national team staff, who worry that a lack of time in his preferred role could affect his performance level for the 2026 World Cup. Meluk also reports that Lerma has been informally advised to consider a move to a team where he could play more regularly in his natural position.
Lerma, who joined Palace in July 2023, has a current market value of €10.00m according to Transfermarkt and has also been linked with Beşiktaş. The 60-cap international has made 8 appearances and provided 1 assist in the Premier League this season.
