Girona reportedly interested in a loan for Marc Bernal

A loan transfer is the only possibility for the Spanish defensive midfielder due to his club's significant expectations for his future.

Journalist Nil Solà reports that Girona would be willing to request the loan of Marc Bernal, an 18-year-old Spanish defensive midfielder, until the end of the season to reinforce Míchel's team following a difficult start to the season. The interest in the player is linked to his limited playing time, having played 120 minutes in eight matches, as Barcelona is managing his situation carefully after a serious knee injury kept him out of action for a year. Girona's intention is to replicate the successful loan of Eric Garcia from two seasons ago, during which he experienced significant development.

A loan is the only possibility because Barcelona has significant expectations for the player's future. At the end of September, the club signed him to a contract extension until 2029 that includes a 500 million clause intended to discourage interested clubs. In early November, MD reported that Marc Bernal was open to possibilities in the winter market, adding that his decision would depend on his level of participation in the matches leading up to the end of the year. The Spanish U17 international has a current market value of €10.00m, according to Transfermarkt. In the past, he has also drawn interest from clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United.
