FC Köln is reportedly interested in Dan Neil of AFC Sunderland due to his situation at the club. The 24-year-old English midfielder was Sunderland's captain and an important player last season, but has only made one Premier League appearance in the current campaign. With his contract expiring in the summer, an extension is considered unlikely, which would probably make him available on a free transfer.
The former England U20 international is being considered by the club in Cologne as a potential replacement for Eric Martel, who is repeatedly linked with a move away from the club. Neil, who has a current market value of €6.50m according to Transfermarkt, has also been linked with several other British clubs, including Rangers, Leicester City, and Coventry City. While reports from November 2025 suggested he would be available for a 'nominal fee', Sunderland were reportedly asking for bids in the range of £15 million to £20 million in the spring of 2025.
