Dundee Football Club has announced that 19-year-old United States U20 international defender Matai Akinmboni has been signed on a season-long loan from AFC Bournemouth. The centre-back, who also holds Nigerian citizenship, will stay with the club for the remainder of the campaign following a two-week trial. According to Steven Pressley, Matai Akinmboni impressed after coming in on trial and will provide competition in defence. Pressley also described him as having a good personality and character, adding that Bournemouth has a lot of faith in the young player and trusts Dundee with his development.
Akinmboni said he was pleased the move was completed and that he felt very welcomed during his trial period. He also expressed a desire to play as much as possible to help the team. Akinmboni joined Bournemouth in January 2025, and his contract with the club is valid until June 30, 2027. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €1.00m.
