Coventry City, a newly promoted Premier League club managed by Frank Lampard, has been monitoring 30-year-old Greek left-back Dimitris Giannoulis since the winter. The club has held direct discussions with Augsburg, where sporting director Benjamin Weber has been in direct contact with Lampard regarding the transfer. Weber and Lampard have a prior relationship. The transfer fee Augsburg has been demanding since last summer is €5,000,000 plus performance bonuses, an amount Coventry is capable of offering.
However, Giannoulis recently rejected the move, reportedly stating that he does not want to play in the Premier League again. So far, his refusal has only been directed at Coventry. Interest from another newly promoted club, Hull, has reinforced Augsburg's position on their valuation. Giannoulis, a defender with 34 caps for Greece, made 27 appearances in the Bundesliga in the 2025/2026 season, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists.
