Daizen Maeda reportedly seeking Celtic exit amid Premier League interest

Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the winger.

Daizen Maeda is reportedly seeking to leave Celtic in January, with several Premier League clubs interested in him. TEAMtalk reported that the 28-year-old winger became frustrated after the club rejected several approaches from Premier League teams during the summer. Maeda is said to have felt he was being sidelined during contract negotiations and believed he was overlooked for a significant transfer that could have improved his chances for Japan's 2026 World Cup squad. His current agreement runs until 2027.

An unnamed source indicated that Maeda feels he requires a new challenge, that the summer rejections had a negative impact on him, and that his desire for a January move is clear. Celtic are understood to be reluctantly willing to approve a departure for the right price, which is thought to be near his ETV of €13.6 million. Wolves are believed to be one of the clubs interested in the player, along with Leeds, West Ham, and Everton, while Brentford are reportedly the main club pursuing him. The Japanese international has 25 caps and 4 goals for his country. He joined Celtic in July 2022 and has recorded 3 goals and 2 assists in 9 league appearances this season.
