Egyptian central midfielder Emam Ashour is not expected to sign a new contract with his club Al-Ahly as he pursues a move to Europe following a strong World Cup. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has personally inquired about the 28-year-old's conditions, and the player is said to be attracted by the prospect of Champions League football. It has been reported that a fee of around £4 million would be required to sign him. Coventry City are now also interested in the midfielder, with Frank Lampard taking a personal interest as well. The Premier League is considered an exciting option for the player.
Ashour, who has 34 caps and 2 goals for Egypt, joined Al Ahly in July 2023 and his contract runs until June 2028. His market value is estimated at €4.00m by Transfermarkt. Al Ahly signed Ashour from Midtjylland for a reported €2.7 million in July 2023. In June 2026, the club reportedly rejected a €5.6 million offer and countered with an asking price of €9.3 million.
