Celtic, the reigning Scottish Premiership champions, are targeting Blackburn Rovers' 28-year-old goalkeeper Balázs Tóth as a potential new number one to replace the recently retired Kasper Schmeichel. According to Alan Nixon, the Hungarian international rejected a new contract offer from Blackburn in late July. Nixon also revealed Celtic's interest in signing the player. Tóth is in the final year of his contract.
The two clubs are reportedly far apart in their valuation, and Blackburn is seeking between £3 million and £4 million. Nixon states that Celtic are unlikely to meet the £3 million mark but may propose a bid including incentives before the window closes. Despite an expected incoming fee for Arne Engels from West Ham United, Celtic is reportedly not willing to spend a large sum for a new keeper. The player has also been linked with AFC Bournemouth and Everton and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €1.00m.
