Celtic have reportedly increased their efforts to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Niels Nkounkou. The 25-year-old French left-back is under contract with the German club until 2028 and was left out of his team's first two matches of the season. This follows a loan spell at Torino where his playing time was significantly reduced, after his game time had also decreased at Frankfurt. He has been capped 6 times for the France U21 team.

OGC Nice had previously monitored Nkounkou and had an agreement in place should their player Melvin Bard leave, but a return to France is now considered unlikely. Nkounkou is valued at around €3m. He originally joined Frankfurt from AS Saint-Étienne in 2023 for €7.5m, having moved to the French club from Everton for €2.0 million just two months prior. Reports from April 2026 mentioned a €5.5 million purchase obligation related to his Torino loan.
