English midfielder Callum Wright, 24, became a free agent after leaving Plymouth Argyle. This followed a loan season at Wigan Athletic where he won multiple club awards. There was significant interest in the midfielder from across Europe, but Hibernian held a long-time interest and maintained contact even as their season extended beyond his.

Wright explained that his agent handled a lot of interest from various clubs, and while his transfer situation slowed down after his season ended, it accelerated again once Hibs' campaign was over. After returning from holiday, Wright visited Edinburgh and the club. Following the visit, he decided he wanted to join Hibernian, even though he still had other clubs to visit.

He was excited by the club's project and was specifically seeking an opportunity to play European football, which he viewed as a different challenge from England's Championship or League One. His decision was reinforced by positive insights from his former Wigan manager, Gary Caldwell, and advice from Jason Kerr, a former teammate. Kerr had signed for Hibs shortly before him and said Wright's hard-working mentality would be well-suited to the club.

Wright has signed a contract with Hibernian until May 2029. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €750k. He has previously been capped four times for the England U18 national team.
