The latest transfer talk surrounding Brighton & Hove Albion includes a potential sensational return for former fan favourite Yves Bissouma. Our analysis of the past seven days shows the club has been linked with six possible arrivals and eight potential departures. The hottest storyline right now, however, involves a big-money move for defender Luka Vušković. Below are the latest updates on the most important transfer rumours.
Luka Vušković
On Friday, Sky reported that Luka Vušković has reached a verbal agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding a transfer, with the club said to have offered 35 million euros. According to the same report, it is unlikely Tottenham will accept this offer, as the club's plan was to receive a transfer fee of approximately double that amount. It is reported that Vušković decided in favor of a move following discussions with Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler. The defender himself has stated that he does not know what will happen and that he is currently a Tottenham player, adding that he wants to focus on the World Cup with the Croatian national team before he makes a decision.
Yves Bissouma
On Saturday, it was reported that Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in re-signing 29-year-old midfielder Yves Bissouma. The Malian international is available on a free transfer as his contract with Tottenham has expired. Sports Boom reports that Brighton are pursuing the player, who also faces competition from Coventry City, Valencia, and teams from Turkey. Although no talks are currently taking place between Brighton and Bissouma, he might have a preference to stay in England.
Jan Paul van Hecke
Voetbalprimeur.nl reported on Wednesday that Tottenham Hotspur has been working for days to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion, but there is no agreement yet. This followed a report from Tuesday where sources confirmed a third offer, worth £50m, had been accepted by Brighton. Graeme Bailey had also reported that Spurs reached an agreement on personal terms with the 26-year-old, with Spurs hoping to complete the transfer before his involvement in the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign begins on Sunday.
Carl Rushworth
On Friday, The Athletic reported that Coventry City have had a bid for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth rejected as it was lower than Brighton’s valuation. The goalkeeper has one year left on his contract, with Brighton holding an option to extend it by another year. Rushworth has stated that he will only sign a new deal and stay at the club if the current hierarchy, with Bart Verbruggen as No. 1 and Jason Steele as No. 2, changes. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, it was reported that Coventry had made an initial offer totalling £20million including add-ons.
Carlos Baleba
An agreement on personal terms between Carlos Baleba and Manchester United from last year remains valid, it was reported on Friday. However, the same report stated that United have ended their interest due to a decline in the player's form. This came a day after The Sun reported on Thursday that Baleba had been in contact with Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha regarding a potential move to Manchester United this summer. It was previously understood that personal terms were fully agreed for a move last year before the transfer did not proceed due to Brighton’s asking price.
Viery
Team Talk reported on Thursday that Brighton are interested in Grêmio's 21-year-old Brazilian centre-back Viery. The report added that scouts from England have recently attended Gremio matches to watch the player. Brighton are not alone in their interest, with Newcastle and Benfica also listed as potential suitors, while Lille and Bologna have inquired about a transfer. Grêmio is reportedly seeking a fee of around €20 million.
Ayase Ueda
Brighton & Hove Albion is interested in Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda and he is on their wishlist, according to a report from The Yorkshire Post on Wednesday. The report suggests Brighton could become a candidate for his transfer if Everton and Feyenoord do not reach an agreement. It is uncertain if Brighton is willing to meet Feyenoord's asking price, which is between 30 and 35 million euros. It is understood that Brighton sent representatives to watch the 27-year-old Japanese attacker this season.
