At a Benfica general assembly, former presidential candidate João Diogo Manteigas asked President Rui Costa if the centre-back the club had reached an agreement with was Jose Maria Gimenez from Atletico Madrid or Fenerbahçe's captain, Milan Škriniar. In response, Rui Costa stated that it was not Gimenez but did not deny the name Škriniar.
The 31-year-old Slovakian defender's contract with Fenerbahçe is set to run until 2029. Škriniar, who joined the Turkish club in July 2025, made 24 appearances and scored 2 goals in the Süper Lig during the 2025/2026 season. He has 87 caps and 3 goals for Slovakia and a current market value of €10.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
