FC Bayern's potential interest in 35-year-old German goalkeeper Oliver Baumann is connected to Manuel Neuer's uncertain future, as the club is preparing for his possible retirement. In that event, FC Bayern München would look for an experienced backup, and according to the 'Bayern Insider', the TSG Hoffenheim goalkeeper is on an internal list. Baumann's contract is valid until 2028, and he was previously open to joining Bayern as a number two.
His situation has changed, however, because of his successful season and his role in the national team. The 'Bayern Insider' does not rule out the transfer if two conditions are met: that Hoffenheim does not qualify for the Champions League, and that it is clearly communicated within the national team that Baumann will be demoted after the World Cup. Baumann joined the club in July 2014. He has made 27 appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has 10 caps for Germany. His market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €3.00m.
